Vettumaran Gulika is a herbomineral formulation widely used by the Ayurvedic Physicians of Kerala and Tamil Nadu for treating various clinical conditions especially fever with chills, rheumatism, vomiting, retention of urine and abdominal disorders. Since there is no uniform standard for the preparation of this drug, the study has been conducted to formulate a standard in preparation and quality control procedures to ensure maximum therapeutic efficacy, safety and authenticity of the drug. The raw drugs used in the preparation were properly identified and authenticated. The TLC profile and Rf values obtained are important parameters for standardisation. HPTLC chromatographic studies of the formulation gave characteristic HPTLC pattern which can be used to establish the proper identity of the drug.
