Abstract

Pancharavinda Choorna is an Ayurvedic polyherbal formulation prepared from the five parts of Padma (Nelumbo nucifera), including petiole, bud, petals, rhizome, and seeds. Described in the Rasayana context, this formulation is considered to possess pittahara, rasayana, balya and vrushya properties. The pharmacological properties are attributed to its phytoconstituents such as alkaloids, flavonoids, fatty acids, and bioactive compounds present in lotus. Classical attributes including kashaya, madhura, and tikta rasa, laghu, snigdha, and picchila guna, along with sheetha veerya and madhura vipaka, support its role in balancing aggravated Pitta dosha. Pancharavinda Choorna is traditionally used in conditions such as insomnia, anxiety, hyperactive disorders, trishna-daha, menopausal complaints, and weakness. Modern studies on Nelumbo nucifera suggest antioxidant, immunomodulatory, hepatoprotective, anti-ageing, and stress-relieving activities, supporting its therapeutic potential. Thus, Pancharavinda Choorna represents a valuable Ayurvedic formulation with applications in promoting strength, vitality, and mental relaxation.
