Abstract

Shwetpradar (white vaginal discharge) is a common gynaecological concern, often affecting women of reproductive age. Traditional Ayurvedic texts suggest several herbal remedies, including Emblica officinalis (Amla), known for its rejuvenating, antioxidant, and antimicrobial properties. However, specific studies on the seeds of E. officinalis in relation to Shwetpradar are limited.

Objective: To explore and analyse the pharmacognosy and therapeutic potential of Emblica officinalis seeds in the management of Shwetpradar.

Materials and Methods: Seeds of E. officinalis was collected, authenticated, and subjected to standard pharmacognostical evaluation including macroscopy, microscopy, and physicochemical parameters. A clinical observational study was carried out on selected patients suffering from Shwetpradar to assess therapeutic efficacy.

Results: Pharmacognostical analysis revealed characteristic features such as taste structure, presence of tannins, and crystalline deposits. Clinical outcomes demonstrated a notable reduction in the frequency and quantity of discharge, along with relief in associated symptoms such as itching and fatigue.

Conclusion: Seeds of Emblica officinalis exhibit promising potential in the management of Shwetpradar, due to their antimicrobial and astringent properties. Further studies with larger sample sizes and controlled clinical trials are recommended.
