Ayurveda, the ancient science of life, emphasizes personalized diagnosis and holistic treatment through clinical examination methods like Trividha and Dashavidha Pariksha. However, with evolving healthcare needs, integration of modern diagnostic investigations has become pivotal in enriching clinical decision-making, ensuring precision, and enhancing patient outcomes. A comprehensive review of contemporary Ayurvedic clinical practices was conducted, focusing on the utilization of laboratory tests, imaging modalities (CT, MRI, Ultrasound), and biochemical markers alongside traditional examination techniques. The role of investigations in diagnosis, prognosis evaluation, therapy monitoring, and preventive care in Ayurveda practice was critically analyzed.
Integration of modern investigations has significantly improved diagnostic accuracy, early disease detection, and individualized treatment planning in Ayurveda. Investigations like complete blood count (CBC), liver and renal function tests, imaging studies, pulmonary function tests, and inflammatory markers support clinical insights derived from Ayurvedic examination. Moreover, objective assessments post-Panchakarma therapies through imaging and hematological parameters have validated therapeutic efficacy, strengthening global acceptance of Ayurveda. While classical texts prioritize clinical acumen, modern diagnostics complement the ancient methods by providing quantifiable data, bridging traditional wisdom and contemporary science. This synthesis ensures scientific validation of Ayurvedic practices, improves credibility, and supports integrative healthcare models. Ethical and judicious use of investigations, while preserving Ayurvedic diagnostic individuality, is essential moving forward. Research emphasizing Ayurvedic biomarkers and the development of Ayurveda-specific investigative tools can further enhance practice.
